Sun man Tom Newton Dunn replies on Eton ‘libel’

Yesterday The Londoner repeated the oft-reported detail that Tom Newton Dunn, political editor of The Sun and the man with the inside track on Boris, was also a tailcoat-wearing Old Etonian. TND hit back, saying that this is “myth” and jokingly asking for hefty libel damages to be paid to military charity Help for Heroes. A worthy cause which we are happy to adopt.

But what a cause célèbre the libel case would have been. After all, is it that damaging to say someone has gone to Eton? Meanwhile, another email arrives. “I am pretty sure I was at Marlborough at the same time as Tom,” says a reader. How many public schools want to claim TND as their own?
