Who says London isn’t still swinging? Everyone from Rupert Everett and Poppy Delevingne to directors Tom Hooper and Sir Trevor Nunn were at the Aldwych Theatre last night for the premiere of Stephen Ward, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s love song to a convicted pimp.

So now that the Profumo affair has become a musical, what other society scandals might soon be seen on stage? “There have been scandals down the ages that have made great plays and operas,” said Sir Trevor, “but I haven’t any that I’m storing up to use.”

“Charles Saatchi would make a good one, though,” observed his companion. The Londoner would certainly race to buy front-row seats for that.
