There’s no disputing that Charlotte Green is a national treasure but what an expensive one she has become.

Just seven months after taking voluntary redundancy from the BBC after 34 years’ service, she is back on a new salary as Radio 5 Live’s football results announcer.

Luckily for Green, details of her pay-off will never be made public.

“We would only release figures and names on the executive board,” says a BBC spokesman. “BBC policy states that staff made redundant may be re-engaged on a freelance or casual basis for a role unforeseen at the time of departure after three months.”
