Most celebrities limit themselves to anodyne pleasantries but not Emma Thompson. The actress was asked to go back to her alma mater, Camden School for Girls, to give them a motivational talk. She came back with a bad review.

“The girls were all doing their ‘likes’ and ‘innits’ and it ain’ts’, which drives me insane,” writes Thompson, in the latest issue of The London Magazine for a schools supplement. “We have to reinvest, I think, in the idea of articulacy as a form of personal freedom and power.”

Thompson is currently starring as Mary Poppins author P L Travers in the film Saving Mr Banks. The unflappable flying nanny would never have put up with an “innit”.
