Nigel Evans cuts a lonely figure in the Chamber

Commons deputy Speaker Nigel Evans cut a lonely figure in the Chamber yesterday when MPs were told that police had searched his parliamentary office. Evans is contesting allegations that he assaulted a man and has stepped down from his duties for the time being.

Yesterday, however, he sat on the Commons front bench for seven minutes, making sure the House could see him. Glad to report that one or two government ministers vouchsafed him a greeting.
