New heroes of the Ice Age

5 February 2013

Sculptor Antony Gormley has come to the rescue of the British Museum, battling through pain in order to be the star speaker at tonight’s launch of Ice Age Art. The museum had originally asked David Attenborough to do the honours, but the 86-year-old indicated that, due to his dodgy hips, he would not be able to stand up for the duration of a speech.

Gormley then agreed to speak in his place, only to be rushed to hospital while in Belgium last week, when an old leg wound got infected. Despite this Gormley has told the museum he is determined to give the talk, which Attenborough will attend as a (non-performing) guest of honour. The Londoner salutes such dedication to the arts.
