The Londoner raised an eyebrow at certain soundtrack decisions during Friday’s London 2012 legacy event, Go Local, a live performance by McFly and Sophie Ellis-Bextor in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for former Games volunteers.

While Lord Coe sauntered onstage to the triumphant strains of Thin Lizzy’s The Boys are Back in Town, Mayor Boris Johnson’s entry was accompanied by Coldplay’s Paradise — a ballad about a starlet who “expected the world” until it “flew away from her reach”. Johnson’s speech took a pop at the Murraymania of his Westminster counterparts. “I am not one of those shameless catchpenny politicians who tries to bathe in the reflected glory of some great national sporting triumph... I did that last year,” he joked.
