Michael Howard’s way a fillip for novelist Sandra

Sandra Howard was joined by friends Frieda Hughes, Cilla Black and Stanley Johnson at Daunt’s Marylebone last night, where she launched her new book Tell the Girl, a novel based on her time as a model.

Her husband, former Tory leader Michael Howard, was happy to spend his birthday celebrating the launch, having helped out with the novel’s creation.

“I read them chapter by chapter as they’re being written,” he told us. “I’m called the comma guru.”

The Londoner wondered if Mrs Howard, whose book incorporates anecdotes from her friendships with Frank Sinatra and the Kennedys, could depend on her husband to give an honest critique of her writing. “He’s very supportive, so when he tells me it’s good I trust him,” she said.

“He is not ever nice for the sake of being nice, that’s not his style.”
