A tricky dilemma for Tatler editor Kate Reardon. She has announced her engagement to bloodstock agent Charles Gordon-Watson, 52, just days before Tatler’s Little Black Book party for eligible singles at Annabel’s next week.

The party has a very strictly monitored guest list, with the following criteria: “Must be funny, attractive, clever, sparky and have something original to offer. Must not be in a serious relationship, engaged or married.”

In light of this, and Reardon’s engagement, debate is now raging at the highest echelons of Condé Nast over whether she should attend her own party or send someone to host in her stead. This etiquette problem would surely tax the ingenuity of the greatest agony aunt.
