Raymond Blanc has disagreed with Jamie Oliver’s attack on poor people who eat junk food. The French chef advances a Marxist analysis of the poverty trap. “Food in Great Britain is always class-led. Food here is about exclusivity,” said Blanc, who has been immortalised as a healthy-eating invertebrate called Henri Le Worm in a new animated cookery app for children.

“Food separates peoples here whereas in France, Italy, Spain, India or China, food culture unifies the population.”
