The Chiltern Firehouse won Restaurant of the Year last night at Tatler’s Restaurant Awards held at The Savoy. While the new hotspot has hosted the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lawrence, The Londoner is yet to confirm a booking, but was relieved to hear some of our culinary greats are having similar problems.

“It deserved to win, they’ve done a great job with it,” chef Angela Hartnett said, “but no, I haven’t eaten there yet.” Marcus Wareing, who recently reopened his self-titled restaurant at The Berkeley, proved luckier. “I’m on my way there now,” he explained as he ducked out of the party. And how, we asked, did he wangle a table? “Through a friend of a friend,” he admitted. Does one need a Michelin star to sup there or will an Oscar suffice?
