Don’t be beastly to Ed Sheeran

Justin Bieber is not the only singer with a legion of fans ready to leap to his defence. At Paddington’s Frontline Club last night, where veteran journalists and aspiring hacks were taking part in Grapevine’s debates on the future of journalism, Buzzfeed editor Luke Lewis revealed how music fans had shaped his golden rule of Twitter.

“One morning, when I was editing NME.com, I woke up and decided I didn’t like Ed Sheeran very much,” recalled Lewis. “So I tweeted about it and started rounding up people who agreed with me. Only it turns out that guy has a lot of Twitter followers. And they got very upset. I was accused of cyber-bullying — for a moment I thought I might lose my job over it. But I learnt a vital lesson. Don’t be horrible on Twitter — and never piss off Ed Sheeran fans.”
