Condé Nast retainer ‘heroic’ Rolfe retires

More sadness at Vogue House this week although of a very different nature.

The Londoner hears that Peter Rolfe, who sits in Vogue House’s reception, welcoming everyone into the building, is retiring from Condé Nast today after 27 years’ service. He was one of the very few people who knew everyone in the company by sight, name, job and floor, including the late and much lamented Alan the Tatler dog to whose aid he called the fire brigade earlier this week.

Last night there was a small leaving drinks party at which Condé Nast president Nicholas Coleridge praised Rolfe for his heroism. “He once removed naked female protesters from the lobby of Vogue House — I think they were fur activists,” said Coleridge. “It was all captured by the BBC evening news, and he did it with great panache and dignity.”
