The Duchess of Cornwall opened the exhibition of Floriculture at the Garden Museum by Lambeth Palace yesterday. Artist Rebecca Louise Law prepared an installation of 3,600 roses suspended from the ceiling of the converted church.

Museum director Christopher Woodward said he had never seen so many visitors. “Could they be trying to avoid romantic dinners with their partners?” he joked. “Good old Waitrose,” said the duchess, when told the supermarket chain had sponsored the show.

Pictured, left to right, with the duchess are Charlotte Verity, a former artist-in-residence at the Garden Museum, Shane Connolly, florist by appointment to the Prince of Wales (who designed the flower arrangements for the most recent royal wedding) and Christopher Woodward’s nine-year-old son Luca.
