Bald facts will be Sajid Javid’s doom

New Culture Secretary Sajid Javid’s promotion has led to whispers that he has No 10 in his sights but political writer Stefan Stern doesn’t fancy his chances. “If Alan Watkins were still alive he would probably seek to calm the Sajid Javid hype,” Stern tweeted today, “on account of his bald head.”

Watkins once wrote a column establishing that “no bald man has been elected PM since Winston Churchill”. Since then, Watkins argued, the winner of each election has been the candidate with the least scalp on show. Judging by Cameron’s recession — follicular, not financial — Ed Miliband might win it by a hair.
