Bad haircuts and dirgey hymns: Alice Arnold goes off message on Thatcher funeral day

While comic Frankie Boyle’s “alternative” Twitter commentary on television coverage of Lady Thatcher’s funeral may have been expected, fans of the social media site were also offered another interpretation by former Radio 4 newsreader Alice Arnold, who tweeted lighthearted comments throughout the occasion.

Arnold, civil partner of TV presenter Clare Balding, described the hymns as “dirgey”, upbraided some of the men attending as needing “a jolly good haircut” and described cheers for Jeremy Clarkson’s arrival at St Paul’s as “showing the calibre of the crowd”.
