Writer Jamie Douglas-Home, nephew of the ex-PM, tells a jolly tale in next month’s Oldie about his eccentric cousin Lord Lambton corridor-creeping at his shooting lodge in Northumberland.

He was trying to get into bed with distinguished historian Lady Antonia Fraser but left his spectacles behind and, being short-sighted, joined Liberal leader Jo Grimond instead. “No comment,” says Lady Antonia. “What an absurd story.”
