Young London actress Jordan Loughran is set to achieve her television breakthrough in a new show from the people who made stars of Zac Efron, Selena Gomez and Jeremy Irvine.

The 24-year-old from Stratford has just finished shooting Evermoor, the first major live-action series Disney has made in Britain.

The mystery adventure will premiere on the Disney Channel in more than 160 countries from the autumn.

Loughran has been acting since she was 13 when, with her mother’s permission, she wrote off and secured herself an agent. Her biggest work has been in theatre where she appeared in Spur Of The Moment, the hit debut play by Anya Reiss at the Royal Court.

But she had only had small roles in television until now. “This is the biggest television role I have done and this is the first thing where I’ve got a big role. I’m really excited.”

Loughran plays Sorsha Doyle, a demure, beautiful and cultured mayor’s daughter, in the four-part series shot near Warrington.

It follows an American family which uproots to a beautiful but isolated village in the middle of England where intrigue awaits. She said, tantalisingly, that Sorsha is “part of the mystery”.

Like many people, Loughran grew up with Disney. She said: “I’m aware that I’m part of something big and something new.

“This is the first show I’ve done that will be showing around the world.

“But at the same time as being aware of that, I just like to focus on the fact that I’ve been given a great character to play and a great script to work with.”

Early break: Selena Gomez in Disney's Wizards Of Waverly Place

The young star fell in love with acting when at Grey Coat Hospital School in Westminster and worked in the holidays, juggling her burgeoning career with life in the sixth form of Camden School for Girls and then while studying languages at King’s College, London.

She admires Kristin Scott Thomas, who acts in both French and English. “I think my dream would be to do something involving the languages I’ve got. That would be amazing,” she said.

Disney has offered early breaks to many stars. Jeremy Irvine cut his teeth on Disney’s Life Bites series while Zac Efron became a teen idol in High School Musical movies and Selena Gomez was in Wizards Of Waverly Place.
