Wimbledon bans flasks of tea over terrorism concerns

Bag searches: Punters trying to get into Wimbledon are met by security

Security guards at Wimbledon have identified an unlikely threat to punters heading to the tournament - flasks of tea.

The All England Club has banned people from bringing their own brew along to the tennis amid concerns over the possibility of terrorism, it was reported.

Guards from security firm G4S are believed to have told punters that the ban follows the bombings at the Boston Marathon last year, in which pressure cooker bombs were used to kill three people and injure hundreds more.

Cool boxes and camping chairs are also not permitted, but punters will find themselves stung particularly badly if it is a hot drink they are after: a cup of tea is priced at £2.10, while a coffee will set you back £2.30.

An All England Lawn Tennis Club spokesman said: “We try to ensure that visitors know in advance our conditions of entry which are widely publicised."
