Thousands of people have joined the hunt for a little girl's missing soft toy after her mother launched an online appeal.

The cute floppy-eared bunny, named Mr Rabbit, went missing during a family trip to London at the weekend.

More than 1000 Twitter users, including television presenter Kirstie Allsopp, have tweeted their support for the appeal.

An image of the lost bunny has also been shared more than 2000 times on Facebook and viewed by as many as 134,000 people.

Mum Zoe Stewart, who lives in Edinburgh, said her distraught daughter Ruby, 3, had "cried herself to sleep" through missing what she calls her "best friend".

She believes they lost the toy, which was a gift from Ruby's grandmother when she was just one day old, as they walked from a restaurant in Beak Street towards Oxford Street tube station on Saturday afternoon.

They later took a tube to London Bridge and from there caught a train to East Dulwich.

Ms Stewart said: "Ruby was tired and she must have put [Mr Rabbit] down somewhere. If I have to get a train back to London to collect him I will!"

The rabbit, which has a patch of fur that covers its left eye, is light brown and smells of Olbas Oil.
