Two men nearly burnt down their London home after they used a toaster to heat up a tin of spaghetti.

The fire brigade was called out to Wartlersville Road in Upper Holloway at 9.35pm after the men tried to heat the tin by putting it on top of the toaster.

They escaped the property with no injuries and the fire was under control within half an hour.

Half of a small maisonette was badly damaged by the blaze.

No one else was harmed in the fire.

Four engines with around 20 firefighters were called to the scene.

Watch manager Adam Barnett, who was at the scene, said: “It’s never a good idea to try and heat a tin on your toaster, as we’ve seen here, it can be really dangerous.”
