Pupils at a top London school are in mourning after a popular teenager collapsed in a maths lesson and died.
Staff at Highgate School tried to revive Joshua Dorgu, 18, but were unable to resuscitate him. He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Free Hospital where he died with his parents by his side.
The reasons for his collapse and death on Tuesday are being investigated, but he was treated for a cardiac incident.
Adam Pettitt, headmaster, said: “This is a terrible tragedy for Josh’s family, the school and its community.
"Josh was a lively, intelligent young man of strong faith, with an irrepressible gift for making people laugh.”
The news was broken to sixth formers in assembly on Wednesday and a special service was held in the school’s chapel.
Pupils have created a “memory board” where pupils and staff are able to pin notes celebrating their memories of Josh. A book of condolence has been opened in the school’s chapel for pupils, staff and parents to sign.
Josh’s father, Rev Karowei Dorgu, vicar of St John’s Evangelist Church in Holloway, and his mother Dr Mosun Dorgu, a psychiatrist, are being comforted by friends.
