Trains were suspended after another Halfords 'We fit' lorry became stuck under a bridge in south east London - around 500 yards away from where one became trapped last year.

The lorry was seen lodged under the railway bridge on Eden Park Avenue close to Upper Elmers End Road this morning.

The incident led to delays for rail users as Southeastern trains cancelled services between Elmers End and Hayes.

A spokesman for Southeastern tweeted: "Because of a vehicle striking a bridge between Elmers End and West Wickham, we cannot run trains between these stations. #HayesLine"

In a statement on its website, National Rail said: "A vehicle has struck a bridge between Elmers End and West Wickham this means trains are unable to run between Elmers End and Hayes.

"Trains towards Hayes will terminate at Elmers End and trains towards London will start at Clock House.

"Passengers may use London Buses between Hayes and Lewisham / Bromley South."

The incident prompted ridicule from passers-by, who shared their thoughts on social media.

Danny Speed tweeted: "Second time one if your lorries didn't fit under a bridge less than 500 yards from last time."

Dan Carpenter posted a picture of the blunder, saying: "You've done it again!"

Another Twitter user said: "One of your HGV drivers needs retraining!"

Fire crews from the London Fire Brigade were sent to free the lorry before the road was eventually re-opened.

A spokesman tweeted: "We freed a lorry from under a bridge in #ElmersEnd this morning. Thankfully there were no injuries."

Train services were reported to have returned to normal just after 10.30am, Southeastern tweeted.
