Tottenham fire: Large blaze breaks out at warehouse as huge plumes of smoke are visible for miles

A large fire has broken out at a warehouse in north London, with huge plumes of smoke billowing into the sky visible for miles.

About 100 firefighters were tackling the blaze at the building in Garman Road, Tottenham.

Dramatic images showed towering plumes of smoke which could be seen for miles across the capital.

Witnesses as far away as Canary Wharf, which is about eight miles from the scene, reported seeing the dark grey clouds rising into the sky.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called at 12.10am on Thursday and crews were still battling the fire at 6am.

Fifteen fire engines were sent to help bring the blaze under control.

Local residents were urged to keep their doors and windows closed.

Station manager Mike Cotton, who is at the scene, said: "Firefighters are working hard to bring the blaze on the industrial estate under control.

"The fire is not affecting any residential properties."

The cause of the blaze was not immediately clear.
