A new pop-up restaurant is transforming traditional, cheap and easy, canned fish into a delicacy, by serving some of the best tinned seafood in the world - and nothing else.

Tincan, on Upper James street in Soho, stocks 25 different types of tinned seafood from humble sardines to high end scallops costing £22 per tin.

Orders are served with bread and a selection of condiments including diced shallots, chilli, olive oil and parsley so customers can season the fish to their own taste.

Most of the seafood stocked is from Portugal and Spain although also includes smoked cod liver from Iceland. The bar will be serving Er Boqueron, a beer made with seawater, which tastes a bit like salted caramel.

The kitchen-less pop-up, which was inspired by a similar restaurant in Lisbon, has an all-black interior designed especially to display the bright designs of the tin cans adorning the walls.

Tincan was created by architecture and design company AL_A, as part of the London Design Festival and everything in the space has been entirely custom-made.

It is open now for a six month residency and price start from £7.
