Surprise south London gig by banned rapper Tyler, the Creator cancelled for being 'too rowdy'

A surprise gig by US rapper Tyler, the Creator, who was banned from the UK for several years over his controversial lyrics, was cancelled today leaving hundreds of fans disappointed.

The rapper was due to perform a surprise show in Peckham after he was finally allowed into the country when a four-year ban was lifted.

A street in Peckham was filled with hundreds of excited fans after he announced the surprise show at the Bussey Building. Earlier today he posted a video of himself shadowboxing outside of Buckingham Palace.

But the gig was cancelled by the event's organisers at the eleventh hour with the rapper saying things had become "too rowdy."

The rapper posted online that the show had been shut down by police but Scotland Yard refuted this, saying it had been stopped by the venue's management.

A huge crowd formed at the venue in Peckham

It was due to be the musician's first performance in the UK after he was banned from entering the country from the then home secretary Theresa May.

This was due to lyrics that the Home Office said encouraged "violence and intolerance of homosexuality".

He wrote: "Too rowdy, cops cancelled it, go home, I tried, the gate climbing nail in the coffin, they go nervous, too bad was a cool idea but hey."

Scotland Yard said there had been no arrests or disruption after the cancellation of the show.

The Standard has approached the venue's management for a comment.

Images shared on Twitter showed huge crowds of people rushing towards to Bussey Building to gain entry to the performance.

One user wrote: “Peckham’s rammed for Tyler, the Creator”.

Another claimed roads were blocked for the former Odd Future rapper’s appearance.

The announcement of his show comes after his new album, IGOR, was released.
