Sting has sold his central London townhouse for £19 million after a year on the market – scoring himself a staggering profit of £13.3 million.

The 63-year-old singer and his wife, Trudie Styler, 61, bought the Grade I listed home near Downing Street in 2003 from former MP Shaun Woodward.

The couple paid £5.7 million for the property 12 years ago, but the sale at £19 million means they have made more than £1m in profit for each year they owned the home.

The nine-bedroom house is believed to have sold for more than £4million above the asking price and is about 16 times the average house price in the city of Westminster.

Estate agent Kirsty Sugden from Hathaways told the MailOnline the price tag reflected the “evolving status of the area as a prime location”.

She added: “Buyers are both British and from diverse international backgrounds, but what they do have in common is their appreciation of these rare historic house and also location which is discrete and yet supremely well located for access to all areas of central London”.

Last year, Sting bought a luxury apartment at the £8billion redevelopment of Battersea Power Station.

Homes at the development range from £590,000 for a one-bedroom flat up to £3.2 million for a four-bedroom apartment.
