Visitors to the 02 in Greenwich will be able to avoid the crush to get home by staying in an on-site hotel made out of converted shipping containers.

Temporary hotels by the company Snoozebox have been springing up at music festivals and sporting events but the 02’s version will be permanent to reflect the busy schedule at the venue. The hotel, which will be inside the 02, will open in mid-November with 80 to 120 rooms — and more may be added if the demand is there. Snoozebox chief executive Robert Breare said that because the hotel was under the roof of the 02 it did not require planning permission. He said: “We believe that demand will be high and installation will begin as soon as the usual regulatory issues have been resolved.”

With tens of thousands of people leaving the venue at the same time, the transport system has often creaked under the strain. In February organisers had to open the VIP lounge overnight after an Olly Murs gig because fans were stranded when the Jubilee line was suspended.
