Simon Harwood: Met made two previous payouts

Not guilty: Pc Simon Harwood

Two other alleged victims of the police officer who attacked Ian Tomlinson at the G20 protests have received secret payouts from the Met, it was revealed today.

In one a 12-year-old girl accused Simon Harwood of racially and physically attacking her.

Student Emilie Diakiese, now 19, was given an undisclosed sum in June in exchange for dropping her legal action. She had accused Harwood of punching her and calling her family “African village people” during an incident in 2006.

A settlement was reached between the Met and another alleged victim in 2004 after Harwood was charged with misconduct following a road-rage incident while off duty in 2000.

On Monday the family of Mr Tomlinson received compensation from the Met Police and a public apology over his death during anti-capitalism riots in the City in 2009. The news vendor, aged 47, died after being struck and shoved to the floor by Harwood. It emerged that he had faced 10 complaints in 12 years.

Miss Diakiese, from Lambeth, launched legal action last year, suing the Met for malicious prosecution, false imprisonment and assault over an incident at her home. She was charged with assaulting an officer but was found not guilty.

The Met confirmed the two out-of- court settlements and said they had both been made with no admission of liability. Harwood was cleared of killing Mr Tomlinson last year but was sacked after being found guilty of gross misconduct.
