A serving Metropolitan Police Service detective chief inspector is to face a misconduct hearing after allegedly asking a police officer if they “hoovered in their underwear”.

Detective chief inspector Alan Moore, who is based in the Newham borough, will appear before a panel on Monday to answer allegations that he behaved in a racist, sexist or inappropriate manner towards junior colleagues.

It is claimed DCI Moore behaved inappropriately on six occasions between 2012 and 2014, with the first incident at Stratford police station in 2012.

It is alleged while working at the police station, DCI Moore asked an officer if they “hooved in their underwear”.

In 2013, it is alleged the officer had a conversation with a colleague before putting his arms around them and hugging them.

The same year, during a meeting with an officer, he is alleged to have told a colleague that he did not think that they would make an allegation of rape against him.

In March 2013, DCI Moore had a meeting with an officer and he allegedly showed them a photograph, asking how many “coloured faces “ were in the picture.

It is claimed DCI Moore then went on to tell his colleague that the Equip to Achieve scheme was “designed for coloured people”.

Ten months later, in January 2014, an officer reportedly phoned DCI Moore to inform him that a CAD had been received telling all senior leadership team officers to remain on duty until midnight.

It is alleged that DCI Moore was rude to the officer and shouted and swore at them, reducing the officer to tears.

It is also claimed in 2014, DCI Moore attended a meeting and while a colleague was speak, interrupted and asked what language they were speaking in.

The public misconduct case hearing begins on Monday, March 7 and is expected to last one week.

DCI Moore is currently on restricted duties outside the Newham borough, a Met spokeswoman told the Standard.
