Rush for flats as Battersea Power transport link gets green light

Battersea Power Station, London

The developers of Battersea Power Station said today they had seen a dramatic surge in interest in apartments at the site since George Osborne gave the go-ahead to an Underground link this month.

Demand for the 800 flats in the first phase of the £8 billion project has been so strong that the launch of sales has been brought forward to January 10.

Rob Tincknell, chief executive of Battersea Power Station Development Company, said: “We always anticipated a lot of interest but the uplift since the Autumn Statement has been surprising.”

He was speaking after detailed plans for the first phase were given the green light last night by Wandsworth council.

Registered potential buyers will be invited to an exhibition on the 39-acre riverside site where details of homes, including price, will be revealed.

A change of plan by developers means that Londoners will now be at the front of the queue ahead of a global “roadshow” starting in the Far East.

Two buildings will be constructed to the west of the main building in the first phase early next year, providing flats, a hotel, cafés, a gym, pool, spa, theatre and office studios.
