Soho power cut: Ronnie Scott singers burst into magical a capella performance in darkened streets of central London

Ronnie Scott's performers burst into spontaneous a capella song in the streets of Soho during a blackout.

Parts of central London were plunged into darkness for several hours on Sunday evening due to the power cut.

Theatre-goers were left waiting for electricity to be restored with major shows unable to continue without their supply of electricity.

But, for some, the technical hitch could not halt their evening of entertainment.

Video posted online showed a group of singers gathered outside the famous jazz club on Frith Street which was lit only by people’s phone lights.

One clip showed the group bursting into a perfectly harmonised rendition of the Chaka Khan’s hit Aint Nobody, to the joy of the waiting crowd,

As they got to the chorus they shouted to the swaying audience to join in, creating a magical moment in the darkened street.

Despite the impromptu performance, the jazz bar was forced to close and cancel the show for the evening after the power remained out for around three hours.

Parts of Soho, Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Circus were affected when the blackout hit at around 6pm.

Many people out and about in central London shared pictures of the eerie-looking streets, describing it as being like an “apocalypse”.

Engineers from UK Power Networks, which maintains electricity cables and lines across London, worked to repair the problem and power was restored at about 9pm.
