Rigby fiancée Aimee West: I hope his killers suffer in prison

The fiancée of murdered soldier Lee Rigby today branded his killers “cowards” and said she hoped they “suffer” in prison.

Aimee West, 23, said she drew comfort from the fact that Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale would not be on the streets.

Today Ms West, a former member of the Royal Military Police, told ITV’s This Morning: “It’s definitely some sort of comfort to know that I’m never going to bump into them in the streets and that they’re never going to be out again but I’m never going to see Lee again.”

She said of the killers, who reacted violently in the dock: “They wanted martyrdom, they wanted to be killed and if they weren’t killed, they wanted to be ransomed back to their own people but they haven’t got any of that... It’s the best outcome we could have got and to see that they weren’t happy about it... I want them to suffer and that’s what’s going to happen now.”

Islamist fanatics Adebolajo and Adebowale hacked Fusilier Rigby, 25, to death near Woolwich barracks on May 22 last year. His widow Rebecca said in an impact statement: “Of all the feelings I have, the one thing that overrides everything is that I know my son will grow up and see images of his dad that no son should ever have to endure.”
