An Arsenal fan who became an internet sensation for his angry rants about the club has made contact with his family after going missing, police say.

Officers said they were extremely concerned for the welfare of taxi driver Claudio Callegari after he vanished on Thursday.

But in a statement today, Essex Police confirmed they were "no longer treating him as a missing person".

Mr Callegari, known as Gooner Claude, became famous after being interviewed several times on ArsenalFanTV ranting over Arsenal results and Arsene Wenger.

His comments have included: "If I did go to Barcelona I'd spend it in a strip club because we couldn't score in a brothel."

He also once joked: "I left my wife because she didn't like Arsenal."
