Readers put their street art on display

27 September 2012

Evening Standard readers have been showing off their artistic skills on the streets of London.

They were challenged to create a piece of artwork on a bill poster in Tottenham Court Road as part of the Art Outside competition.

After an appeal for entrants in the Standard last week, readers were given half an hour to produce a piece on the theme of “interpretation of outside”.

They include a colourful urban owl next to the message “go outside”, by Amelia McGregor from Winchester. Ade Awofadeju, from north London, sketched London landmarks, and Lizzie Mary Cullen, from Bermondsey, produced the quirky message: “I left my heart in Tottenham Court Road but a pigeon ate it.”

The competition was set up by the Cass Sculpture Foundation, which is celebrating 20 years of championing large-scale public art.

A panel of judges will pick a winner to create a work for JCDecaux’s biggest digital poster sites.
