Police officers carrying out routine checks on a car were surprised to find a sheep in the boot.

The car was pulled over by police officers in Kingston, south London, just after 6pm this evening.

But as police chatted to the driver they noticed the farmyard animal looking at them through the window of the black Volvo.

The driver explained to officers the sheep, named Amy, is the mascot for St George’s Hospital in Tooting and was being taken back home to Kingston City Farm.

She has also starred in ITV series Foyle’s War and regularly tours schools, care homes and community events raising thousands for the hospital.

A spokesman for the Met said the driver was found to not be causing any offences and was allowed to continue with his journey.

They later tweeted an image of Amy with the message: “An un-ewe-sual traffic stop by our officers today…The driver was a bit sheepish too!”
