A west London home has gone up in flames twice in one week after being hit by stray fireworks.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called to the Perivale house just after 8pm yesterday when neighbours spotted smoke pouring from the roof.

Four fire crews, including 21 fire fighters, battled the blaze.

Officers later discovered a lit firework in the roof space.

It came after some 35 fire fighters rushed to the same Devon Close property on Saturday after a rocket hit a gazebo in the back garden.

Flames engulfed two gazebos before spreading to the ground floor and first floor of the house in the first incident.

Dramatic images showed flames bursting from the top of the house.

Images of the aftermath of the blaze showed burnt out rooms and destroyed windows.

No one was injured in either fire.

Charlie Pugsley, head of the brigade's fire investigation team, said: “This incident shows just how dangerous fireworks can be and why it is essential that you should always follow the firework safety code.

“With Bonfire Night just days away, we recommend that you go to an organised firework display rather than setting off fireworks at home.

“Fireworks are explosives and can be extremely dangerous and it is just fortunate nobody was hurt in this incident.”

The LFB have urged Londoners to follow their firework safety code with advice including avoiding alcohol when setting fireworks off, lighting rockets at arm’s length and never throwing bangers.
