Pedestrian in his 50s dies after being hit by cement lorry in south-east London

A man in his late 50s has died after being hit by a cement lorry in south-east London, police said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene in Woolwich after the London Air Ambulance and paramedics attended the incident on Friday afternoon.

Police today launched an appeal for witnesses to the incident, in Baker Road next to Woolwich Common at around 4.05pm.

The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and was not arrested, according to the Met.

The victim has not yet been formally identified and next of kin are yet to be informed.

A spokesman for the Met added: "The driver stopped at the scene, he was not arrested.

"Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Catford Traffic Garage are investigating.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact officers via 020 8285 1574."
