Owner abandons hamster in its cage

Albino hamster: dumped
10 April 2012

A hamster was dumped in freezing conditions with a note from the owner saying they could no longer afford to care for it.

A commuter discovered the one-year-old female albino in its cage, inside a bag, in Pimlico.
The note read: "Please take care of my friendly hamster. I cannot afford to look after her."

He took the pet, above, to the Blue Cross animal hospital in Victoria. Receptionist Amanda Marrington said: "We are more used to seeing dogs."
The charity has seen a rise of nearly a third in animals being dumped, which it believes is linked to cash pressures on pet owners.
