An old Boris bike bearing the Barclays logo has been returned – more than a year after it was supposed to be.

Bradley Tubb, 30, noticed the vehicle docked just off Broadway Market while returning a Santander Cycle.

The bicycle stood out from the others as it bore the old Barclays livery, which has not been displayed on the bikes since February 2015.

Mr Tubb, an associate director at a communications firm, said: “I was heading up to Broadway Market from Old Street and decided to hop on a Sadiq Cycle since it had been raining and the buses were packed.

“I finished my journey on Ada Street – which usually has a long line of docked red bikes – and there was an old, blue, Boris Bike.

“I hadn’t seen one for a well over a year, so I have no idea where it came from – or what it had been doing in all that time.”

The Hackney resident posted a picture of the bike to Twitter, referring to it as the Boris Bike equivalent of Kimmy Schmidt.

He added: "It reminded me of a show called the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt where the main character is held captive for 15 years without any contact with the world outside.

"One day she's released back into the world and has to adjust to modern life.

"I'd just finished my journey, but I'd have absolutely taken it otherwise."

A TfL spokesman said that 16 months was the longest anyone had ever waited before returning one of the hire bikes.

Anyone who fails to return a one of London’s hire bikes after 24 hours is slapped with a £300 fine, which luckily for the person who hired this Boris bike, does not increase.

Bors bikes have been found outside the capital in places such as Wolverhampton and Gambia, 5,800 km away from the nearest docking station.

Last year, it was claimed that more than 200 of the bikes went missing due to a security glitch.
