New £21m Lord’s cricket ground stand designed by Olympic stadium architects

4 December 2013

A £200million modernisation of Lord’s cricket ground will kick off with a replacement for the ageing Warner Stand designed by the architects behind the Olympic stadium.

Marylebone Cricket Club plans to spend £21million on a new 2,900-capacity stand that will improve views for spectators and provide state-of-the-art facilities for match officials. There will also be a new 135-seat restaurant, with views over the ground, as well as three bars.

The Warner Stand next to the Pavilion is used by MCC members and their guests, but the views from around 600 seats are partly obscured by the grandstand built in 1998.

The plans, submitted to Westminster Council last week, were drawn up by architect Populous, which was also responsible for Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium and the redevelopment and roof of the Centre Court at Wimbledon.
