Thigh-high shiny red boots with six-inch heels are not your traditional running gear — but that’s not stopping West End star Jamie Baughan.

The actor, who plays Don in Cyndi Lauper’s Kinky Boots, joined cast members from some of London’s best-loved shows in Covent Garden as they pledged to run a “musical mile” for Sport Relief.

Stars from Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, The Kinks musical Sunny Afternoon, Guys And Dolls, Mrs Henderson Presents, Les Miserables and The Phantom Of The Opera called on Londoners to sign up to the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief games on March 20 and walk, run, swim or cycle to support the charity.

Baughan said: “I am 6ft 3in and I am here in six-inch heels. If I can do something for Sport Relief then anyone can. It was really hard getting used to walking in the boots at first — lots of wobbling and falling over.

"And now I’m here in them every day and doing a mile in them. The costume department have made me a thicker heel, very kindly. Which helps.”

Megan Leigh Mason, who plays Ray Davies’s first wife Rasa in Sunny Afternoon, said: “I would call on Londoners to get up and do something small to help — anything is better than sitting on your sofa watching the telly.”

Danny Horn, who plays Ray Davies, added: “We are coming together and raising money for people less fortunate than us all around the world. And it’s lovely to be here on a warm February afternoon with other West End casts.”

This is the fifth time the Standard’s Dispossessed Fund has joined forces with Sport Relief and Comic Relief to raise money for Londoners in poverty. It has resulted in cash injections of £4 million to our fund, with the money backing 271 projects across the city.
