A music fan has launched a campaign to ban rock group Nickelback from coming to London.

The Canadian rock band do not currently have any gigs planned for the capital, but that has not stopped Craig Mandall from launching the crowd sourcing campaign.

Mr Mandall claims on his campaign page he was inspired by a recent crowdfunding effort in Virginia, USA, which successfully managed to get Foo Fighters to play a gig in the state.

On a similar vein he wants to keep Nickelback from ever coming to London again.

He writes: “With your help, we can ensure that the band do not schedule any gigs here, do not attempt to come here – nor even phone here.

“Just imagine, thousands – perhaps tens of thousands of music lovers – all not witnessing an exclusive concert by Nickelback in London. It will be glorious.”

Mr Mandall said he needs to raise $1,000 (£626) to keep the band out of London and has so far raised $21.

Anyone who takes part in the campaign will have an email sent on their behalf to Nickelback’s management, with the severity of the language used depending on the amount donated.

In a similar incident East Sussex town Hastings once staged a 'Go Away Chesney' protest after it was revealed Chesney Hawkes would be performing and turning on the Christmas lights.
