An exhibition showcasing the life and career of Muhammad Ali is set to open at the O2 Arena.

The ‘I Am The Greatest’ exhibition, which opens on Friday, includes more than 100 pieces of memorabilia including Ali’s world championship belts and unseen archive footage of the boxer.

The former heavy weight champion of the world was due to open the show himself but could not travel to London as a result of his on-going fight with Parkinson’s disease.

Co-curator of the exhibition and Ali’s friend of 30 years, Davis Miller said: “We're hoping he comes this summer. Ali himself hopes so and we will see if we can make it happen.

"The goal is for each and every visitor to come away feeling that they have spent serious time in the company of, and sharing stories with, this singular and extraordinary man.”

A petition calling for Ali, 74, to be given a honorary knighthood was recently started by former British world heavyweight champion David Haye and now has more than 20,000 signatures.

Famous British Olympians Mo Farah, Anthony Joshua and Colin Jackson have also backed the campaign.

Fans of Ali will be able to visit the exhibition at the 02 Arena until August 31.
