A motorcyclist and a pedestrian were seriously injured after a crash in east London this afternoon.

The male rider collided with the female pedestrian in Leman Street, Aldgate, at about 1.45pm today.

Both were reported to have suffered non-life threatening injuries, a spokesman for Scotland Yard said.

The accident happened metres away from where 57-year-old cyclist David Blake was knocked down by a car and killed in December last year.

Rob Hesketh, a software developer, saw the aftermath of today’s incident from the window of his office building.

He said he saw several police cars and ambulances at the scene and witnessed one of the victims being carried into an ambulance on a stretcher.

He said: "I cycle through that area often and it is a nightmare. It feels like there is nowhere to go. People seem to want to bunch together.”

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said there had been no arrests over the incident.

In a statement, he said: "London Ambulance Service attended and treated both injured parties.

"The female pedestrian, aged in her 20s, was treated at the scene by LAS. She has been taken to an east London hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

"The male motorcyclist, also 20s, was taken by LAS to an east London hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening."

The road was closed while police investigated.
