Model smashed BMW into tree after being hit by teenagers fleeing police on stolen moped

Natalia Savelyeva's BMW, which was written off

A model today told of the moment two teenagers on a stolen moped smashed into her BMW and were sent flying into the air while trying to flee police.

Natalia Savelyeva said the boys, aged 15 and 16, jumped a red light at a crossroads in Battersea and collided with the back of her £50,000 vehicle, sending her skidding onto the pavement where she narrowly missed a postbox before ploughing into a tree.

Following the dramatic crash, the pair then leapt to their feet and fled, leaving the wreckage of the motorbike strewn across the busy junction.

But the thieves were arrested minutes later after being chased on foot by two undercover officers.

Russian-born Miss Savelyeva, who appeared with Made in Chelsea’s Spencer Matthews in Channel 5 show The Bachelor, told the Standard it was a “miracle” that she had escaped with minor injuries and no pedestrians had been hurt.

The 33-year-old said: “I’m amazed I wasn’t more badly injured. I got a couple of bruises and a little bump on my head from the airbag. I’m very lucky it wasn’t worse. But my car was completely smashed, it will be written off because it was so badly damaged.

“The bike was just in pieces but the boys got up and ran.

“They’d been driving dangerously for quite a while and undercover police officers were following them.

She added: “They are minors, they are probably just silly boys and hopefully this will be a lesson to them.”

Miss Savelyeva, from South Kensington, was given a check-up by paramedics but did not need hospital treatment. The boys were taken to hospital and treated for leg injuries.

Lorna Cooper raced to her front door after hearing a loud bang. She said: “It was just a mess, I could not believe what I was seeing. It was like something out of The Sweeney.” Another witness, Najeem Folarin, a scientist, said: “It was quite dramatic. The car hit a tree and knocked it over and the bike was in pieces.

“I’m surprised the two guys were able to run after being involved in that.”

The accident happened at the junction of Prince of Wales Drive and Albert Bridge Road at 4.30pm on Sunday. The boys, 15 and 16, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle-taking and driving away at Wimbledon youth court on Tuesday.

The 16-year-old also admitted dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving while uninsured and driving without a licence. They will be sentenced on September 1.
