A food blogger from London who went missing in Cape Town has been found safe and well.

Wilkes McDermid vanished in the South African city, where he had been visiting friends, on Boxing Day after failing to get his scheduled flight home to London.

The alarm was raised when Mr McDermid, 37, an avid blogger and user of social networks, cut off all communication - prompting an international search for him led by friends and a police investigation.

Friends feared the financial services programmer from Chelsea, who has a history of depression, might have harmed himself after disappearing.

The reason his disappearance is still unknown.

He is currently still in Cape Town after being reunited with his family who flew out to join the search to find him.

His family yesterday released a statement telling of their joy to be reunited with their son and brother and thanked people “around the world” for their help.
