It may not look like much from the outside, but this London Indian restaurant has been voted Britain’s best takeaway.

Against the growing trend for bespoke cuisine in the capital, the good old-fashioned Millennium Tandoori in Sydenham, south London, topped a league table of 11,000 restaurants in the UK.

The restaurant received five-star ratings for the quality of its food, the speed of their delivery and its overall value for money. It also had more repeat customers than any other takeaway in Britain.

Customers raved about the restaurant’s £2.10 onion bhajis, £1.80 naan breads and the chicken korma, priced at £4.70, which is one of their best-selling curries along with chicken tikka masala and lamb biryani.

One devoted customer said: “Food arrived hot, generous portions and really delicious. Will definitely order again.”

Another, Paul from London said: “Delicious and arrived super quickly.”

Justin from London was also full of praise, writing on the restaurant’s website: “One of the best curries I've ever had”

And another said: “Gorgeous as always.”

The restaurant’s owner, Mr Ahmed, said he was thrilled at the accolade, given by takeaway website HungryHouse.

Mr Ahmed said: “Our customers love the food, the quality of the service and we offer the best prices around.

“This has always been our formula and it is what our customers love best.

“I’m very happy that been awarded this honour and I’d like to thank our customers for their valued custom.

“To our rivals I’d like to say, ‘work hard, and serve up top quality food with excellent service and maybe you can win next year.”

The website also revealed London’s top takeaways, with Persian restaurant Kish in Maida Vale ranking at number two. Customers praised the takeaway for its “wholesomeness” and large portions.
