A migrant has died in the Eurotunnel while trying to get to Britain, authorities have reportedly said.

This morning's tragedy has sparked delays on Eurostar and Le Shuttle trains, leaving passengers waiting up to three hours extra for trains leaving Folkestone and 45 minutes for the St Pancras service.

One of the six sections of the tunnel is shut while investigations take place. It is not known how the person died.

Day trippers are being advised by Eurotunnel Le Shuttle to rearrange their journeys, while Eurostar told the Standard trains were delayed by up to an hour.

Eurotunnel's official Twitter account said only that a freight train had been stopped at about 7am after trespassers were found on board.

A Eurotunnel spokesman told the BBC: "Services are partly suspended, and the disruption is principally affecting freight services. Passenger services are running with slight delays.

"We are working very hard to restore full services as soon as possible."

Last week, more than 150 migrants tried to storm the French Channel Tunnel terminal. An industrial dispute between ferry workers and Eurotunnel in Calais has seen the link shut twice in the last month.
