A glorious masked ball was held at Lancaster House last night to raise money for the Elephant Family, a charity co-founded by the Duchess of Cornwall's brother, the conservationist and writer Mark Shand.

Creatives such as Christian Lacroix, Matthew Williamson, Mario Testino, ESCADA, Missoni, Dita Von Teese, Fabergé, Cartier and Johnny Rocket had specially created masks in the form of endangered animals for guests to wear. Invitees included Prince Charles and Camilla, supermodel-of-the-moment Cara Delevingne and her sister Poppy, Jerry Hall, Imran Khan, Jools Holland, racing legend Jackie Stewart and actor Rupert Everett.

Since its launch in 2002, the charity has invested more than £6 million in conservation projects across Asia, working to secure elephant and wildlife habitats and highlighting the animals' plight.

With the Duchess of Cambridge expecting her first baby imminently, there were plenty of enquiries about her well-being.

If Charles and Camilla did betray any details about the baby's sex or possible names, none of the guests revealed the information, despite the champagne flowing.
